skylar funk Brings USC Master's Training to the Classroom at LACHSA

In May 2025, skylar funk proudly completed his Master in Pop Music Teaching and Learning at the USC Thornton School of Music, marking a major milestone in his journey as a music educator. The program, known for blending practical musicianship with innovative pedagogy, provided skylar with advanced tools to inspire and guide the next generation of musicians.

This fall, skylar is bringing his expertise to the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), where he began teaching Music Theory I in August 2025. In addition, he continues to coach private students — those interested can reach out via email at skylar.funk@gmail.com. His teaching emphasizes both flexibility and creative expression, helping students develop a strong foundation while fostering their individual musical voices.

Rather than simply marking the end of his studies, sky’s USC degree opens a new chapter — one rooted in mentorship, creativity, and community.

As he steps into the classroom at LACHSA, he brings with him not just advanced training, but a vision: to make music education a place where every student feels empowered to explore, take risks, and find their own voice.
