trapdoor social
Trapdoor Social is the indie rock project led by Los Angeles–based songwriter and activist skylar funk, blending driving guitars, brass-powered energy, and lyrics that refuse to shy away from big questions. The band’s sound fuses alternative and indie rock roots with sax and full brass sections, creating a live show that’s as explosive as it is joyful.
Since forming, Trapdoor Social has signed with Pasadena Records, toured nationally and abroad, and pioneered solar-powered concerts and festivals, including the Sunstock Solar Festival of Los Angeles and Berkeley. Their music has reached listeners worldwide through radio, TV and film syncs, streaming playlists, and stages from the U.S. to Europe and Latin America.
The group’s collaborations include “Prophit,” featuring Fred Schneider of The B-52’s, and their recent album ECHOBLOOM, produced by Curt Schneider (John Mayer, Rod Stewart) and performed alongside longtime collaborators Grant Dickerson (drums) and Louie Gonzalez (guitar). The record introduces Spanish and Portuguese moments alongside the band’s signature mix of urgency and uplift.
At shows, skylar and his multi-instrumental bandmates trade instruments mid-set, often joined by full brass ensembles like SoCal’s Top Shelf Brass Band, turning every performance into a community celebration.
With a growing international audience and a deep commitment to sustainability, Trapdoor Social continues to evolve while keeping its core mission intact: to make music that connects, energizes, and fights for a brighter future.
