skylar funk is a Los Angeles–based music educator, touring rock musician, and climate activist who blends artistry, pedagogy, and purpose. Holding a Master of Music in Popular Music Teaching and Learning from the USC Thornton School of Music, he teaches Music Theory at the LA County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) and offers private instruction in voice, guitar, saxophone, songwriting, and general musicianship.

As frontman of indie rock band Trapdoor Social, Funk has toured internationally, collaborated with artists such as Fred Schneider of The B-52s, and co-founded the nonprofit Sunstock Solar Festival, bringing renewable energy to live music events across the country. His teaching approach, informed by Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy, empowers students to learn through the music they love while building strong technical and theoretical foundations.

Passionate about mentorship, Funk helps young artists discover their unique voice, develop professional readiness, and step into the music industry prepared to thrive.
